Venerable Francis Libermann
Priest, Founder of the Society of the Holy Heart of Mary; Superior General of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (Spiritans)
Born Jacob Libermann, the son of a rabbi, he converted from Judaism to Catholicism as a young man, was ordained despite years of delay from severe illness, and went on to found a missionary society for the evangelization of Africa and the African diaspora — which he then merged with an older struggling community to create the modern Congregation of the Holy Spirit (the Spiritans), still serving across Africa and the world today.

Virgin, Religious Sister (Canossian Daughters of Charity), Patroness of Sudan and South Sudan, Patroness of Trafficking Survivors
Kidnapped and enslaved as a child in Sudan, so traumatized she forgot her own birth name, Bakhita endured years of brutal abuse before finding freedom, faith, and religious life in Italy — and became one of the clearest living proofs that forgiveness can outlast even the worst evil done to a person.

Young pages and catechists in the royal court of Buganda, mostly teenagers and young men, who chose death by fire rather than renounce their newfound Catholic faith or submit to the king's demands — their courage helped plant the Church so firmly in East Africa that Uganda remains one of the continent's most vibrant centers of Catholic life today.
