Joshua 1:9
When the Lord commissioned Joshua to lead Israel into the Promised Land after Moses' death, He did not promise an easy path or guarantee the absence of danger. Instead, God commanded Joshua to be strong and courageous, acknowledging that fear would naturally arise in the face of such overwhelming responsibility. The divine instruction was not to pretend fear doesn't exist, but to refuse to let it control his decisions or paralyze his obedience. God's promise was clear: wherever Joshua would go, the Lord Himself would be present with him. This transforms our understanding of courage entirely. True courage is not the absence of fear, but the choice to move forward in obedience despite feeling afraid, anchored in the certainty of God's presence. We often wait until we feel brave before we act, but God calls us to act bravely even while our hearts tremble. The Spirit who strengthened Joshua is the same Spirit dwelling within us today. When we face challenges that seem beyond our capacity, when opposition looms large, when we're called to witness for Christ in hostile environments, we can take hold of this same promise. Our courage is not self-generated; it flows from knowing we are never alone. God does not ask us to manufacture strength from within ourselves, but to draw it from His inexhaustible supply, stepping forward in faith even when our knees shake, trusting that His presence makes all the difference.
